Proclamation copy for Jandek Day

Jandek Day is the official Jandek holiday which happens every year on November 5. The holiday was first announced by the mayor of Houston, Texas, Lee P. Brown. The holiday was suggested by an anonymous Jandek fan, who didn't receive any new until two weeks after the date had passed. First declared on Thursday, November 5, 2002, Lee P. Brown wrote in the official Proclamation Copy:

Jandek

Music and other arts have been recognized as unique to human compatibilities and creativity as a means of self-discovery and self-expression, and as a fundamental part of civilization. As a true American art form and a way of life for many, music symbolizes an important part of Texas heritage, and has contributed to the cultural enrichment of our community.

On November 5, 2002, Jandek will be honored in recognition and appreciation of his generous contributions to the music industry. He recorded thirty-two albums in the last twenty-four years that have been recognized by music historians worldwide. Jandek's music has been the subject of scholarly, study, cinematic adaptation, orchestral arrangement and magazine and book articles.

The City of Houston is pleased to congratulate and commend Jandek on this auspicious occasion, and extends best wishes for continued success.

Therefore, I, Lee P. Brown, Mayor of the City of Houston, hereby proclaim Tuesday, November 5, 2002 as
